Why spend Christmas in a chalet in the mountains?
There is something special about arriving in the mountains a few days before Christmas.
The villages light up, Christmas trees appear in the squares, snow settles on the rooftops and, as the afternoon draws to a close, the slopes gradually empty as everyone makes their way back to their chalets.
Inside, the fire is already lit. The children have left their ski gear by the door. Some are preparing dinner while others linger over a drink or a hot chocolate.
Perhaps this is what makes spending Christmas in a chalet in the mountains so special: a few days when the whole family can be together under one roof, with enough space and freedom for everyone to enjoy the holiday at their own pace.

A fireside living room, TV room, private cinema or sometimes a second lounge means everyone can naturally find their own space. Bedrooms and suites then provide privacy for each couple or family.

Christmas morning, somewhere in the French Alps
Christmas morning rarely starts at the same time for everyone.
The house slowly begins to wake. The first coffee is poured in the kitchen, a few impatient children are already in the living room, and the mountains remain peaceful beyond the windows.
Then come the presents, a breakfast that lasts longer than usual and a question that no one really needs to answer straight away: shall we go skiing today?

Enjoying the chalet is part of the holiday
Some days begin on the slopes. Others are spent almost entirely at home.
And when your chalet has an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna or hammam, staying in can quickly become a plan in itself.
After a few hours of skiing, everyone finds their own ritual: a few lengths in the pool, some time in the sauna, a drink by the fire or simply a book with the mountains as a backdrop.
In properties with a dedicated treatment space, a massage can also be arranged directly at the chalet.
Meanwhile, the children can watch a film or play in their room.
There is not much that needs to be planned. And at Christmas, that is rather the point.

Christmas Eve, at home
Then comes 24 December.
The table is set, the fire is crackling in the living room and no one needs to put on a coat to head out to a restaurant.
One of the pleasures of renting a chalet for Christmas is being able to celebrate Christmas Eve in the privacy of your own home.
Some families love preparing dinner together. Others would rather leave everything to someone else.
In that case, a private chef can come directly to the chalet and create a festive menu tailored to the family, including dishes for children and any dietary preferences.
While dinner is being prepared in the kitchen, the evening simply carries on elsewhere in the house.
And then, all that is left to do is sit down together at the table.
Megève, Chamonix, Combloux, Saint-Gervais or Tignes?
The only question left is where to stay.
In Megève, Christmas extends beyond the chalet into the village itself, with illuminated streets, boutiques, restaurants and days spent skiing.
In Chamonix, the setting becomes even more spectacular, with the Mont Blanc massif ever-present and a valley offering countless ways to enjoy the mountains, both on and off the slopes.
Combloux is particularly appealing to families looking for a quieter setting while remaining close to Megève, with beautiful views of Mont Blanc.
In Saint-Gervais, the atmosphere is that of an authentic Alpine village, with direct access to the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area.
And in Tignes, Christmas takes on a distinctly high-Alpine feel, in a high-altitude resort where skiing naturally takes centre stage.
More than the name of the destination itself, the right choice depends on how you imagine your Christmas week: in the heart of a village, close to the slopes, in a secluded chalet facing the mountains or in a large property where the whole family can come together.
